I went to a funeral today, a sad affair as funerals tend to be, especially when celebrating the life of a young person.
Luke Cochrane joined our work family several months ago as a cadet within Dangerous Goods management (DGM), and had made an impression as a good kid with potential, courteous and committed, a credit to his parents and family, a 19 year old enjoying life, an outstanding sportsman, valued as a friend and a colleague. A party in Whitianga ended tragically, with Luke leaving alone then disappearing, his phone ceasing transmission an hour later. The people of Whitianga, the Police, Coastguard, Surf Lifesaver’s, Land Search and Rescue, and of course friends and family, searched day and night until Luke was recovered from the Waterways several days later. Luke’s father expressed the family’s appreciation of the efforts of all involved, those who gave so freely of their time and resources, (meals, accommodation, printing – the list goes on). The regard that Luke and his family are held was very much apparent today, with many hundreds of people taking the opportunity to pay their respects and to say a final farewell. Luke will remain with us in spirit. Don . Comments are closed.
